NORTH EAST - Cecil College volleyball faced a pair of Region 20 Division 2 opponents Saturday morning. The Seahawks took down the Howard Dragons in the opener, but dropped a wild match with the Allegany Trojans to end the day.
Cecil is now 6-9 on the year after this weekend's results.
Match 1: Cecil 3, Howard 0 - Box Score
Cecil's defense limited Howard to 14 kills in a straight set victory in game one.
The Seahawks recorded 40 kills in just three sets for the first time this season. Their 22.3% hitting percentage is its second best for the year.
After two lopsided victories, Howard threatened to make a comeback in set three. Tied 16-16 at the midway point, Cecil would collect nine of the final 12 points to see out the victory.
Etta Harris led all players with 19 kills in the match. Rachel Mullins tallied 34 assists, while Isabella Brumfield led the defense with 15 digs. Katarina Kuchera topped all servers with five aces.
Match 2: Allegany 3, Cecil 2 - Box Score
The Seahawks scored just 17 points over the final two sets, as Allegany came from behind to take a 3-2 win in the noon match.
Cecil and the Trojans split the opener two sets of the contest. The two teams went to war for set three, trading points before reaching a dead heat at 18-18. The Seahawks ripped off seven of the game's next 10 points, including a service error from Allegany to end the set.
The Trojans responded with their best set of the day, blasting Cecil 25-9 to even the match. The Seahawks looked better early on in set five, but the Trojans wiped them out with an 9-3 run to take the contest.
Harris once again topped everyone on offense, this time with 21 kills. Mullins mimicked her game one performance with 34 assists.
