Harris, Mullins Headline Cecil's Historic Volleyball Season
NORTH EAST - A memorable season for the Cecil College volleyball team came to a close on Wednesday evening with a resounding 3-0 victory over Chesapeake College.
The Seahawks end the year with 10 wins, their most since the 2019 season. The team will say goodbye to eight sophomores, many of which have written their names in Cecil College's record book. Setter Rachel Mullins made history in mid-October, grabbing the program's all-time record for assists in a single season (654) and career (852). The Elkton, Maryland native recorded at least 10 assists in every game and recorded a career high 44 helpers in a 3-1 win over Anne Arundel back in September.
"I was fortunate enough to compete alongside some of the best hitters I have ever played with this season," said Mullins. "It was a great feeling stepping into the full-time setting role this season."
Mullins is joined by fellow second-year standouts Katarina Kuchera, Neelie Grauer, and Isabella Brumfield. Kuchera finishes her career top 10 in kills (213) and digs (343). She is one of four players in modern program history to accomplish this feat. Grauer ends her career with the Seahawks in seventh place all-time at 34 blocks. Rounding out the group is Brumfield, who featured as the primary libero this season. The Rising Sun grad's 174 digs this year slot her seventh for a single season campaign.
Despite losing so much talent, the Seahawks will return record-setting hitter Etta Harris for 2025. The freshman moved from the middle to outside this season, which resulted in Harris setting a new single-season program mark for kills with 302. The North East, Maryland native sits just 44 kills away from Cecil College's all-time program record, set by Lydia Davis back in 2022.
"I have really enjoyed the move to outside this season," said Harris. "At first it was a big adjustment, but I feel like I am able to do more for the team from this position. Rachel (Mullins) has made the transition so smooth for me and is always putting me in a position to succeed."
