NORTH EAST, Md. - Cecil softball faced its first non-region foe of the season, spliting a doubleheader with the Mercer County and handing the Viking just their second loss in 2026.
Cecil moves to 12-4 on the year.
Game One - Cecil 5, Mercer County 1
Taylor Stapleford tossed 15 strikeouts and Kylee Bergman hit a three-run home run in the fifth to boost Cecil to a victory over Mercer County in the opener.
Stapleford allowed one run on six hits from the circle. She stranded seven Viking runners.
Bergman finished 2-for-3, while Taja Souza and Keira Fendt posted one hit and one RBI each.
Game Two - Mercer County 21, Cecil 8
Keira Wolfe homered, doubled, and collected three RBI, but the Seahawks could not overcome an early deficit to defeat Mercer Couinty in game two.
The Seahawks fell behind 7-0 after the first frame. Cecil chipped away and eventually made it 10-7 after the fifth, but the Vikings closed out the game by outscoring them 11-1 in the final two innings.
Malea Ferdinando (0-1) and Kendel Leonardi chipped in one double apiece. Keira Fendt grabbed two RBI.
