NORTH EAST, Md. - Cecil softball collected two more victories over a Region 20 opponent on Saturday, defeating Hagerstown soundly in the Seahawks home opener.
Cecil moves to 8-2 overall with the victories.
Game One - Cecil 14, Hagerstown 0
Taylor Stapleford threw the first no-hitter of her collegiate career, as Cecil's offense exploded during its shutout win.
Stapleford finished one walk and one error shy of a perfect game. The frosh phenom struck out seven over five frames of work.
Taja Souza led all batters with three hits, including a double. Souza also stole three bases. A quartet of Seahawks finished with two hits each. Keira Fendt topped the Seahawks with five RBI.
Game Two - Cecil 9, Hagerstown 1
Taja Souza featured once more in game two, tallying three hits while also grabbing a win from the circle.
Hagerstown took its only lead of the day after a Cecil error in the top of the first. The Seahawks immediately tied it up in the bottom, then took over in the second with three more runs. Souza (4-1) kept the Hawks off the board for the rest of the game, with a five-run fifth sending Hagerstown packing via mercy rule.
Malea Ferdinando finished the day with three hits and two runs. Kendel Leonardi led all players with two RBI.
