Baserunning and Bats Power Cecil's Victory
NORTH EAST - Cecil College softball stolen a season high seven times, leading the Seahawks to a 12-8 win over the Chesapeake Skipjacks on Wednesday afternoon.
Sloane Tanner and Briana Rebman led Cecil on the base paths with two swipes each. Gianna Dougherty, Layla Hopkins, and Madison Nolan stole one bag apiece. The Seahawks got on base with nine walks, their third most this season. Cecil also recorded double-digit hits for the 11th time in 2025. Amaia Smith topped the Seahawks with three hits and three RBI. Sloane Tanner collected a double and a triple for her two knocks.
Cecil's five-run second inning made the difference for the game. Four of the five came with two outs thanks to a bases-loaded single from Smith and a double by Natalie Cook. Cecil stayed out in front for the remainder of the contest.
Smith (5-6) added a complete game performance from the circle, striking out a pair of Skipjacks. The sophomore allowed no free passes and just four earned runs.
