NORTH EAST - Cecil College softball got back on track with a victory against the Penn Highlands, defeating Penn Highlands 8-3 in Sunday's opener.
Gianna Dougherty (5-3) tossed four clean innings, allowing just one hit while striking out eight. Cecil's offense put up two runs in the first and three in the fourth during this stretch. The Seahawks then matched Penn Highlands in the sixth with three runs each. Amaia Smith tossed the final three frames to earn the save.
At the plate, Sloane Tanner the led the Seahawks with three hits, two coming as doubles. Dougherty helped her own cause with two hits, while Natalie Cook chipped in a pair of base knocks as well.
The Seahawks improve to 8-7 with the win.
