As voted by a committee of Sports Information Directors around the conference, Cecil College freshman setter Sarah Blevins, was named the MD JUCO Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Month for her outstanding performance during the month of October.
As a first-year player, Blevins has made an immediate impact on the volleyball team and helped the Seahawks to a 12-7 overall record (9-2 in MD JUCO), a third-place finish in the conference standings, and a NJCAA Region XX Tournament Appearance.
In the eight matches played by the Seahawks during the month of October, Blevins recorded 263 assists for an average of 32.9 per game, including three matches against College of Southern Maryland, Delaware Technical Community College, and Community College of Beaver with 40+ assists. Her statistics for the month of October landed her first in MD JUCO in assists per set as a first-year player. Blevins also tallied 26 service aces during the month of October.
In addition to being named Student-Athlete of the Month, Blevins was crowned with Honorable Mention on the All-MD JUCO Team for the 2017 season. Blevins finished her freshman campaign with 565 assists, marking her first in the conference during regular season play, with an average of 8.07 assists per set. Blevins also added 52 service aces in her first, which landed sixth in the conference in total service aces.
