James Thomas is entering his first season, and 9th season overall in the coaching realm, as Cecil College's assistant women's basketball coach, under first year head coach Dayra Diamond.

Thomas comes to Cecil College from conference and region rival, Harford Community College, where he helped the Fighting Owls' program to three consecutive trips to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament and three back-to-back Maryland JUCO conference titles. Thomas also has experience at Baltimore City Community College and Chesapeake College, while helping both programs reach championships of their own.

In his involvement in MD JUCO, Thomas has helped his teams earn six MD JUCO championships, four Region XX Division I championships, two Region XX Division II championships, and five overall trips to the national tournament. During his time at Chesapeake College, the Skipjacks were ranked as high as #7 nationally. In 2015, Thomas was inducted into the Chesapeake College Athletics Hall of Fame, along with the women's basketball team, and was given the honor of delivering the team's induction speech.

A 1987 graduate of Dundalk High School in Baltimore, Thomas began his coaching career in the very community he was raised, that being Turners Station. His career began in the Turners Station recreation leagues and moved to high schools such as Dr. Samuel L. Banks High School, Towson High School, Carver Vocational-Technical High School, Dundalk High School, Newtown High School, Northwest High School, and Mt. Royal High School.

Thomas also has 30 years of service working at Morgan State Univeristy and is a proud father of five wondering children - Justin, Travis, Jasmine, Alexis, and Shelby.
