The Cecil College women's softball team volunteered their time at Bay View Elementary School's Toys for Tots event on Monday, December 18, helping less fortunate children in our community pick out toys for Christmas.
Women's softball players started by transforming the elementary school's cafeteria into Santa's workshop for the 25 children at Bay View Elementary to shop for their Christmas presents. After unloading the trucks from local Toys for Tots collection sites, the Seahawks organized the toys by age and gender to make shopping easier for the students. Each softball player paired up and walked around with a child to pick out their Christmas toys and bagged them so each familiy could transport them home and wrap them for Christmas morning.
Head Coach Krystal Zellner takes pride in her fellow coaches' and team's efforts to be involved in the community. "As a coaching staff, we think its really important that our players realize their civic responsiblity to the community and when we hear of local opportunities for our girls to be role models, we are always willing and able to help," said Zellner.
Toys for Tots is a long-standing organization founded by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Their mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the communities of participation.
